Londonderry/Derry, Northern Ireland; a city with two names but one incredible history. Those from the Republic of Ireland refer to it as Derry, whilst those from Northern Ireland, an independent country that’s part of the United Kingdom, call it Londonderry. Today, depending on how you name the city immediately gives away your alliance. The city was the center for the majority of conflict between these two groups, mainly Catholics vs Protestant, and literally divided the two sides with a wall. Today, the wall still stands. I’ll be visiting this tomorrow. Interestingly enough, Londonderry/Derry is also home to the largest Halloween Carnival (Parade) in Europe and the largest after party at the local pubs. Happ All Hallows’ Eve.
The journey north.
